Thanks From recycle-pc workshop (2nd January 2012)

Hello everyone,

from the workshop at recycle-pc in Great Yarmouth. The email address is on www.recycle-pc.co.uk web site and a profile on Windows Live briefly describes what happens with free computer recycling.

So far, volunteers have learnt how to recycle computers and have successfully learnt to create a PC network and integrate a K.V.M. (keyboard, video and mouse) switch into the networked system. Additionally, the volunteer team have successfully restored old Windows '95 systems by turning them into Windows XP Media Centres.

And there's more, the V.T. (volunteer team) will be creating a networked system for ex prisoners living in a home in Norwich. Jon and David have been in touch with the home and it is agreed by all that our donation to the home will be life enhancing and give the residents an opportunity to communicate and research on the internet.

Anyway, the workshop is very busy and hope good use will be made of the email address that is typed as recycle-pc.workshop@LIVE.CO.UK  Best Wishes to you all and of course good things will be happening for the future of recycle-pc.

thanks go to recycle pc from - Streetvoice - a local community group representing the voice of people experiencing rough sleeping, homelessness and/or are vulnerably housed in the Greater Norwich Area.  Our computer will help to develop the group, secure funding and organise activities which will help people to overcome difficulties in accessing support. Much appreciation to your hard working team and we will keep you posted of future developments.

Christine Chalmers - Worklessness Development Officer

What a lucky chance I spotted your posting on the Freecycle website!  A thousand thanks for your kind donation of a computer with accessories and a printer for Age UK North Norfolk (Formerly Age Concern North Norfolk)  Your very kind donation enables us to offer help to over 65s who want to learn basic computer skills at our office in Cromer.

Keep up the good work guys. Anne Day

Thank you for the computer you so kindly donated to the young people , and to the excellent service we received when we picked the computer up.

Thanks again. Karan - Break Children's Home

Hi, I don't require a computer, I just wanted to let you know that I admire and respect what you are doing for the community.  I read the article in the magazine but had already seen your offers on Freegle.  You are so kind and well done to each and every one of you.

Shirley

Computer received with thanks I delivered the computer to our client yesterday afternoon. He was so excited about it!

His friend was there to help set it up and he was clearly impressed too. I am hoping it will help him to occupy himself in a positive way. Many thanks Peter - you are running a brilliant service.

Kind regards, Valerie Meyer Hall, Adviser for Norfolk and Suffolk Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.

“What a wonderful scheme!  The computer we got through recycle-pc will allow the Hungate Medieval Art volunteers to use the internet to plan more exciting events for our users and promote the medieval art of Norfolk more widely.  As a small charity there is no way we would have been able to afford one any other way.  Thank-you!”

Best wishes, Dale Centre Manager at: Hungate Medieval Art

060210  What a great idea!! Well done - when we upgrade, we'll be in touch to donate our old

Hi

We would like to thank Steve and the team at Recycle-PC for their kindness in donating a laptop to our disabled daughter to enable her to study and do her schoolwork online. No matter how hard we tried we could not afford a laptop and the specialist sight and sound programs for disabled people that you have put on it to enable her to use it, are a godsend. She can now keep in touch with all her friends and relatives through the internet, do her schoolwork, listen to e-books and use the internet.

She was injured in a friends car 3 years ago and has spent the time since then confined in a wheelchair, making it impossible to sit at a desk due to her spinal injuries. Her hearing and sight were both impaired as well.

Now with your help she is able to do all her schoolwork and keep in touch with her friends from her chair.

You guys deserve an award for everything you do to help charities and the disabled, it was through another friend who received a computer for her children to use that I was put in touch with you. Not only did you listen to our needs and those of Kirsty, your helpful suggestions and insights solved all our problems and worries. Your scheme has not only helped others but has enabled my 14 year old to have a new lease of life.

God bless you all for your kindness and help. Especially to Steve who listened to Kirsty and sorted all the technical stuff so she could use it.

With our deepest thanks and admiration,

Sarah & Tommy and of course Kirsty

Thanks & a plug for Recycle PC

Some of you here might have seen this post on a few of our local groups from a great bunch of guys who work to re-cycle old and unused PC/laptops asking for unwanted computers. Any you have lying around could be of use to them, especially towers, speakers and unwanted or damaged laptops.

They offer computers regularly every month on Freecycle and the response to there posts far outweighs the computers that they have to offer. They have had over 1000 requests for the last postings.

They mend them and give them out to disabled people and those people in our community who really do need a pc to keep up with modern life.

My friend has been lucky to be chosen to receive a PC and is over the moon as he’s housebound most of time. So i'd like to say a BIG thank-you to Steve, David and Peter of Recycle PC And hope members here will continue to support these great guys. Jane.

Just to thank you Steve for your patience and kindness in sorting out the computer for my severely disabled son. I had taken it to 3 computer shops and spent over £400 but it still was not functioning properly. Your time and patience in sorting the problems out for us is much appreciated, your scheme is to be applauded and I know a lot of disabled people who have benefitted from your efforts are truly grateful. Keep up the good work you do and thank you once again. Adele and Colin.

Hi Just a quick note to thank you for the printer. My son had been in hospital but is now home and was really pleased to receive it.

Kind regards

Linda

You guys all need a medal for what you are doing, you have restored our faith in people again, knowing there are still people out there willing to help others with for no financial gain to themselves. Natasha.
